FBA Micro Credit Center

The intention of this project is to support survivors of the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, in their efforts to rebuild their community and economy. The project will assist FBA to build a Micro Credit Center which will provide a focal point for the work of FBA; and set a standard for reconstruction work within the city of Banda Aceh and the Aceh province as a whole.

Objectives :

The overall aim of this program is to tackle the appalling poverty in the wake of the tsunami disaster by continuing to build a solid long-term connection between the port communities of Ringsend and East Wall, Dublin, Ireland and the community of Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The purpose of the connection is to :

a).	Support the people of Aceh province in their recovery from the disastrous consequences of the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami; and

b).	Provide the people of Dublin port communities with a means to learn about global development issues and an opportunity to act in solidarity with a sister port community in need of support.

Expected Results :

The construction of the FBA Micro Credit Center will incorporate:

A micro-economic credit union service.

Offices, training rooms and facilities for FBA staff, Local Motivators and beneficiaries, including a Mushalla (prayer room)..

Dedicated green area/memorial garden.

A car park.
